DREAMING OF THE SONATA IN THE FOREST

Violinist-composer Mihkel Kerem and pianist Rokas Zubovs present a new concert program "Dreaming of a Sonata in the Forest". The program aims to immerse the listener in the realm of fantasy and dreams, so symbolically, Mihkel Kerem's miniature for violin and piano "Asleep" begins. To summarize the program, the performers decided to prepare a version of M. K. Čiurlionis' symphonic poem "Miške" for violin and piano, thus responding to the 19th century. existing practice of making symphonic works more accessible to listeners by adapting them for various instrument ensembles. At the center of the program are sonatas for violin and piano by three contemporary composers - M. K. Čiurlionis, M. Ravel and L. Janaček. The relationship of all three composers to this genre is shrouded in mystery.
Mihkel Kerem embodies the tradition of famous violinists who are not only virtuoso soloists, but also concertmasters of famous orchestras, versatile chamber music performers and well-known composers. Currently, the work of the composer M. Kerem consists of about 200 works, among which there are eight symphonies, concerts for various instruments with an orchestra, string quartets, chamber sonatas. As a violinist, Mr. Kerem is Second Concertmaster of the Royal Liverpool Symphony Orchestra and performs extensively as a soloist and member of various chamber ensembles. In Lithuania, the violinist is a familiar and welcome guest. This is his fifth presentation to Lithuanian music lovers.
Pianist Rokas Zubovs has performed in South and North America, Asia, and many European countries. The works of M. K. Čiurlionis (1875-1911) occupy an extremely important place in the pianist's repertoire. Rokas Zubov is the only pianist in the world who has recorded all of M. K. Čiurlionis' works for piano on 6 CDs (published by "Impetus musicus" in 2010). The pianist organizes music festivals, writes articles on various music and culture issues, created the main role in the artistic film "Letters to Sofia" (2012, director Robert Mullan, Great Britain), gave presentations on various issues of researching the work of M. K. Čiurlionis at international conferences in Lithuania, Estonia, Belgium , Argentina, USA.
