Culinary festival "The Buckwheat Road - Yesterday and Today"

Buckwheat is the daily bread of the Dzuks. The poor and sandy lands of this region were the most suitable for growing buckwheat grain. Dzūkės are especially proud of their buckwheat flour cakes - babkas, which cannot be found in other regions of Lithuania, and they are still baked in Dzūkija.

In Druskininkai, the culinary festival "The Buckwheat Road - Yesterday and Today" has been held since 2020. Every year, this festival attracts more and more curious people who want to know the path of buckwheat to our table and taste the traditional buckwheat cakes - babkas - mixed in the improvised outdoor kitchen at Pramogi Square and baked in the stone oven of the "Velvetti" restaurant.

The commission will evaluate the authenticity, preparation method and taste of the babkas recipes and choose the winner.

You will be able to taste freshly baked, warm buckwheat babkas taken out of a real oven directly from the hands of the bakers! You will also have a unique opportunity to taste the traditional Rye harvest dish - buckwheat buzałė.
