Kazys Kęstutis Šiaulytis watercolour exhibition "Beyond time"
The title of the exhibition – “Beyond Time” – is not a description of the theme of the artworks exhibited in this exhibition, but rather the words that the artist K. K. Šiaulytis keeps saying in his mind, looking at the works of M. K. Čiurlionis. In the watercolours depicting the Nemunas, Ratnyčia and Dainava landscapes, the audience will feel that timelessness, the breath of eternity, opening up in the mystery of the natural landscapes of this region, immortalized in the work of our artistic and musical genius. The exhibition seems to unfold as if two watercolour journeys unfold – one, in the green depths of the pine forests of the Druskininkai region, the other, in the spaces of sights related to the life of M. K. Čiurlionis abroad. All the exhibited watercolours were created in the open air, directly immersing themselves in the silence of the flow of water or listening to the bustle of the depicted city.
The artwork of M. K. Čiurlionis has accompanied the artist K. K. Šiaulytis, like all those interested in art in Lithuania, since school. In the 1960s and 1970s, his paintings were widely presented in the country's periodicals, published in separate reproduction sheets, postcard collections, which were printed in a circulation of as many as 50-70 thousand. In childhood, following Čiurlionis, the artist painted several fantasies, and now he is attracted by this great genius to see the secret of Nature.
Kazys Kęstutis Šiaulytis was born on May 15, 1953 in Skaudvilė, Tauragė district. He studied at the Šiauliai Pedagogical Institute, Faculty of Arts. He is a member of the Lithuanian Artists' Union and the Journalists' Union. This artist can be presented as a dual artist: a painter, watercolourist, draftsman and print artist, a writer. He published his first works in the Lithuanian periodical press in 1969, and from 1978 to 1992 he worked as an artist in the humour magazine "Šluota". Since 1992, he has devoted a good dozen years to education. He published and edited the children's magazine "Žaliasis laikraštis", wrote three art textbooks for secondary schools, several teaching aids and organized international school art exhibitions "Gamtos pasaka". Since 2000, he has been traveling with watercolours, organizing exhibitions, participating in plein airs and publishing his work in Lithuanian periodicals.
