Vygintas Orlovas: These plants are just antennas, but [that doesn’t mean we can’t spend precious time here together]
Interactive Greenhouse Installation and DJ Set
When interdisciplinary artist Vygintas Orlovas arrives in Žiogeliai, the plants in our greenhouse will begin to sing. Every object has a certain resistance, says the artist. Living organisms undergo change, and this transformation affects their resistance. These changes can be observed and used to control sound. Based on these principles, synthesizers will be connected to the plants, creating an interactive installation that allows us to listen to the slow transformations occurring within them. Approaching and touching the plants will trigger changes in the sound — changes that can be sudden and dramatic.
The installation will constantly evolve, with the artist fine-tuning the sounds and sensitivity of reactions on-site. Like a meaningful conversation, this will be more of a process than a finished work — one that invites the participation of visitors.
Vygintas Orlovas (b. 1989, Kaunas) is an interdisciplinary artist and researcher. His creative work focuses on the relationship between sound and image. He has been participating in exhibitions since 2009 and in academic conferences since 2014.
