Janinos Valančiūtės kūrybos paroda „Negrįžtama laiko tėkmė“

The author of the exhibition “IRREVERSIBLE FLOW OF TIME”, Janina Valančiūtė, started drawing in childhood and never stopped. Drawing with shorter or longer pauses, she tried various techniques, attended a ceramics studio, and created linocuts. The first authorial exhibition of her drawings and linocuts was held at the Lithuanian Medical Library in 1998, and exhibitions of charcoal drawings appeared in 2011 and 2025. This was followed by exhibitions in public cultural, health and recreation exhibition spaces in Vilnius, Klaipėda, Joniškis, Trakai district, Varėna, and Druskininkai. The exhibition organized by the Druskininkai Crafts Center “Menų kalvė” showcases the artist’s works created in charcoal and pastel from the cycles “Fragile Being”, “Grey Cloud”, “Running on Pine Tops”, “Battle of the Waves”, “B-moll”, “Beyond” (2024-2026). Drawing in charcoal and pastel combines two different, but complementary expressions: charcoal allows you to create soft shadows, bright contrasts and a lively line, while pastel provides warmth, color saturation and a gentle glow. This technique allows the author to freely combine an expressive gesture with a subtle modeling of tones, to obtain both a dramatic and extremely sensitive mood. Due to its tactility and direct contact with paper, it becomes very personal – as if you see how a thought turns into color and movement. The motifs of pine trees, the sea, waves and clouds are repeated in the author’s works. The starting point here can be considered Johann Wolfgang Goethe's "Faust", which has accompanied the author since her school days. One of the most famous works of world literature constantly reminds us of the constant struggle between good and evil in the world, the dual nature hidden in every person, the forces that hold us to the ground or pull us into space, the infinity and fragility of being and the limits of our own possibilities or their absence.
