Exhibition of Works by Domas Glatkauskas: “Abstract Alien Legends About the Goddess”

DOMAS GLATKAUSKAS, the artist:

– This exhibition features several styles that I enjoy working in.

“ABSTRACT”

– Sometimes, when I’m overloading my brain, I like to just smear paint on paper and watch how it runs.

“ALIENS”

– Almost a decade ago, I came up with a character—an alien who walks through life and experiences it from a human perspective. After all, we all sometimes feel like we’re not from this planet.

“LEGEND OF”

– Sometimes I create characters, like stories or fairy tales; I let my hand dictate the lines, and what comes out usually resembles a certain story that every viewer tells themselves.

“GOD”

– A higher power simply exists. Different people call it by different names. I think we’re all talking about the same thing. Since I like Leonardo da Vinci’s works, I tried to create my own version of “The Last Supper”… it’s not that easy.

“WOMAN”

– What would we men do without women? We’d probably go fishing. From a young age, I grew up surrounded by the works of my grandfather A. Šuliauskas, whose motifs often featured women. That’s why this creation of God sometimes appears in my works. And that’s what the exhibition’s title is based on.

I simply can’t stick to a single style, so I’ve stopped trying to do so. I think there’s often a lack of variety and color in many places; everything is uniform and framed. Perhaps that’s why I didn’t want to frame my works—let them flutter lightly with the passing of every viewer. It’s like a symbol that everyone who comes up and looks at it influences this work, contributes to it. I think the presentation of my life and work is expressed most of all through my art. I lived abroad for many years, but now I’ve been living in Druskininkai again for almost half a decade—the place where I grew up since 1991, the year I was born. I love variety: I get tattoos, ride a skateboard, study massage therapy, and make music. Sometimes I blame myself for not being able to make up my mind and settle on one thing. Others ask, “Is it necessary?” I don’t know yet. If it works out, it works out. If not, that’s just how it was meant to be. If you’d like to learn more about my activities, feel free to come by, chat, or message me on Instagram: @domas.gla, like everyone does these days
