61 Piano Summer | GABRIELĖ SUTKUTĖ

The V. K. Jonynas Gallery (9 Turistų St., Druskininkai) will welcome audiences and present the latest creative explorations of Lithuania’s most renowned pianists from all generations. One of them is pianist Gabrielė Sutkutė.

Gabrielė Sutkutė, a pianist of the younger generation, is known for her vibrant temperament and charisma, as well as her “excellent precision and musicality” (Rasa Murauskaitė, “7 meno dienos”). She performs extensively and has appeared at such renowned venues as Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, Steinway Hall UK (in London), Musikhuset Aarhus (in Denmark), and the Lithuanian National Philharmonic.

Gabrielė performs not only as a soloist but also with various orchestras and chamber ensembles. Last year, she performed Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto with the Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra (conductor Markus Huber), and in 2023, with the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra (conductor James Blair). In addition, Gabrielė has been invited several times to perform with the Kaunas String Quartet.

The pianist has won twenty international competitions, in which she was also awarded special prizes. This year, Gabrielė won first place at the Royal Over-Seas League Music Competition in London and became a Kirckman Concert Society artist. In 2023, she won first place at the Chappell Medal Piano Competition and second place as well as the Audience Choice Award at the 2022 Birmingham International Piano Competition. At the 8th International M. K. Čiurlionis Competition for Pianists and Organists held in 2019, the pianist won third place, the Audience Choice Award, and the “Impetus Musicus” Concert Prize. For her achievements in international competitions, Gabrielė has been awarded letters of appreciation from Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda on six occasions.

In 2016, Gabrielė graduated from the Juozas Naujalis Music Gymnasium in Kaunas (teacher: Birutė Kumpikienė). From 2016 to 2022, the pianist studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London in the class of Professor Christopher Elton. She completed her bachelor’s degree with the highest honors and her master’s degree with distinction. She was awarded a diploma for her outstanding performance at her master’s degree recital. In 2023, Gabrielė completed her Artist Diploma studies at the Royal College of Music in London (in the classes of Professors Vanessa Latarche and Sofya Gulyak). This year, Gabrielė is one of eight pianists selected to study for the Artist Diploma with Gabriela Montero at the OAcademy Conservatory of Music in the U.S.
