Silk painting exhibition by Rūta Burbulė and Eglė Lipinskaitė: "Through the Labyrinths of Love"
Visitors to the "Labyrinths of Love" exhibition are invited to embark on a visual and emotional journey along the city of Druskininkai’s "love routes," taking them past the Island of Love in the Nemunas River, the "Maiden’s Eyes" (Mergelės Akys) ponds, the curved bridge, Villa "Linksma," the "Crowns" monument, the Spring of Beauty, and more. At the heart of the exhibition lies an immersive spatial installation—a labyrinth of hand-painted silk ribbons—that weaves a multi-layered, cohesive narrative, inviting visitors to rediscover the city’s legends.
The exhibition opening and a meeting with the artists, Rūta Burbulė and Eglė Lipinskaitė, will take place on October 3rd at 4:00 PM.
The exhibition’s creators, Rūta Burbulė and Eglė Lipinskaitė, are silk painters and close friends. They first met precisely where strands of silk intertwine, where colors engage in dialogue, and where a silent whiteness speaks more eloquently than words. Their paths crossed during a beautiful time in their lives—back when their children, now teenagers, were still crawling on all fours. Navigating today’s labyrinth of life, they are forging a shared creative path together—a journey that began quite unexpectedly with a simple, heartfelt conversation. Their meeting was no coincidence. Their creative friendship has yielded wonderful shared ideas that filled their notebooks and annual plans, as well as joint activities spanning various regions and—crucially—those quiet evenings over a glass of wine, when the emotions stirred by events called for togetherness: a time to rejoice, to process, and to let those experiences take on a life of their own...
The concept for this exhibition—an invitation to follow the trail of legends of love—also emerged from those cozy evening conversations. What began in a lighthearted, playful, and semi-joking spirit has now evolved into a substantial outcome: an artistic installation featuring hand-painted silk. The process was neither simple nor easy, yet it was undoubtedly fascinating. Like most others, the legends of love in Druskininkai tend to culminate in dramatic endings. But can we view them differently? Perhaps without sadness, or even with a touch of humor? Are these tales truly so heart-wrenching and tearful? The exhibition’s creators, Rūta Burbulė and Eglė Lipinskaitė, warmly invite you to explore the exhibition and experience the "silken weight" of the legend.
The project is partially funded by the Druskininkai Municipality.
