Kotryna Šešelgytė's watercolour exhibition "Symphony of Water and Light"

“Symphony of Water and Light” is an exhibition in which ancient Japanese myths meet the stylistics of M. K. Čiurlionis’ painting, creating visual mythological stories about the beginning of the world, sky travellers and symbols of nature. Inspired by the principles of Japanese aesthetics – wabi-sabi and ma, the author of works Kotryna Šešelgytė reveals the poetry of temporary beauty, silence and space, which naturally resonates with the spirit of M. K. Čiurlionis’s work. The exhibition creates a sensitive dialogue between Eastern and Western cultures, where myths, colours and light merge into one field of sensations, revealing the universal connection between man, nature and the universe.

The illustrations presented in the exhibition depict ancient Japanese myths. These stories speak of the creation of the world, the world of natural spirits, deities and their connection with man. The myths are alive with motifs such as the unity of heaven and earth, the cyclical nature of natural forces, and the interaction of fragility and eternity. The visually conveyed myths invite not only to look, but also to listen to the language of symbols that speak of man's place in the order of the universe. This is an invitation to experience a deep, timeless worldview.

Kotryna Šešelgytė is an interdisciplinary artist who works with watercolour and is inspired by the aesthetics of nature, travel, and different cultures, especially Japan. Her work intertwines mythological motifs, a sense of light and silence, mountain landscapes, and musical rhythm. Author studied in Lithuania, the United Kingdom and Japan. Kotryna actively expresses herself not only in the fields of visual arts, but also in the fields of music and education, leading creative workshops and engaging in community activities. Her works have been exhibited in Lithuania, Europe and Asia. Kotryna’s work is a silent bridge between East and West, between the outside world and the inner state.
