Žygis pėsčiomis į Švendubrę | Druskininkų vasara su M. K. Čiurlioniu
We walked a long way through the pine forest to Raigardas, the pines accompanied us, occasionally silently as if sighing and nodding their heads.
"Raigardas is near!" Kastukas shouted and started singing his favorite song "Oh forest, forest."
It was one of his favorite places. His younger sister Jadvyga, gently calling her brother Žvirblelis, recalls that he often visited Raigardas with friends when he was a teenager.
Remembering the Čiurlionis family's excursion early on a summer morning to Raigardas more than 100 years ago, let's set out as well.
If this is your first time visiting the Raigardas valley, you will intuitively look for that spot — where in June 1907 Čiurlionis stood and painted his famous triptych "Raigardas." Painted at the beginning of the 20th century, this painting is like an icon, it holds more than just a landscape.
From Druskonis Lake, Kastukas's childhood place, we will walk through the forest that comes alive and resonates with the composer’s first Lithuanian symphony "In the Forest."
We will pause, remember, and honor the Švendubrėnai — contemporaries of Čiurlionis.
The 23rd International Arts Festival "Druskininkai Summer with M. K. Čiurlionis" and the creative house "Druskos studija" invite you on August 15th to a walking tour "Čiurlionis’s Trails to the Myths and Living Legends of Švendubrė" with art historian Aušra Česnulevičienė.
The hike starts at 7 PM near the historic M. K. Čiurlionis pine tree (Druskonis lake shore). The route length is 5 km.
We will travel to the impressive "Evening Impression in Švendubrė" starting at 10 PM on August 15th at the Švendubrė Community House, which will amaze with the unity of nature and music.
Light, music sounds, dance, and forest rustling will create a magical sight and unforgettable experience for the audience.
After the concert, hikers will be taken back by bus.
